Some history !

Le Club plein air de Caraquet is a non-profit organization that was founded in May 1989 and has set itself the following objectives: promoting sports as an outdoor leisure activity, while organizing various outdoor activities and providing its members with access to technical services and facilities.

Its proper functioning depends on many volunteers, generous donors, and its contributing members.

In May 1989, the Caraquet Cross-Country Ski Club merged with the Caraquet Outdoor Club Inc.

  • In April 1993, it was decided to use the 3.5 km ski trail and turn it into a family bike trail, and it was inaugurated in 1994.
  • In December 1994, the Élites du Nord Roi requested permission to use the CPAC trails for training.
    Then in 1995, at the request of the Élites du Nord Roi, a skating trail was built on the 3.5 km trail in exchange for teaching ski techniques to CPAC members.
  • In 2000, the focus was on skaters since they apparently outnumbered skiers.
  • Then in 2001, the beginning of a long and beautiful collaboration between the city and the CPAC, with, among other things, the loan of Massey Ferguson for the maintenance of the skating rink.
  • In 2008, decision to develop snowshoe trails with the option of equipment location.
  • In 2009, an extension to the chalet was built for cross-country skiing competition equipment.
  • In 2013, a dog park was built on the skating rink.
  • In 2014, work began on the future cross-country skiing and mountain biking trails followed by their inauguration in 2015.
  • In 2016, the CPAC will host athletes at the Jeux de l’Acadie in the mountain biking discipline. Introduction of the Sprockids program.
  • In 2017, introduction of snow biking on women’s trails for this purpose.
  • In 2018, completion of the mountain biking trails.
  • In 2022, mountain bike trails and general signage. Start of construction of the Generations Center which will currently house the CPAC.
  • In 2023, first winter season with the new PistenBully groomer.
  • In 2025, the Outdoor Club will change premises and move to the Regional Generations Center.

We are currently working on a strategic plan that will represent the needs demonstrated by our user community based on our resources. This strategic plan will be available to members when it is finalized.
